I really need to stop going to bed at midnight. No, I need to stop going to bed at 1:00 a.m. I put the kids down at 9 p.m. (or 10 if Anson has had one of his 4-hour hibernation naps). Then I wind down by surfing the internet. Mostly illustration or craft blogs. I would say they are my guilty pleasure, but there is no guilt. Bethanne (one of my illustration teachers at BYU) said that if I try to do at least 1 thing artistic per day (at least while my kids are little) that I will keep the art habit up. This week I have done relatively well at following that rule. Mostly because I started an Etsy shop and am all excited about doing projects to put up for sale. More than the prospect of making money, having a platform to show my stuff is pretty motivating. I am all full of ideas for projects. I am going to venture into doing more children's and decorative art. And try to find a place to make good prints.
I also entered the Communication Arts Annual Competition on a whim. I got an email in my inbox that reminded me that the deadline is in 2 days. So I said a quick prayer and entered one of my pieces that I had in my BFA show. Cost me a pretty penny...$45. One entry. wow. But of anything I can justify that kind of expense over anything else. Even toilet paper.
Tomorrow I am going to take Anson to COSI with one of his friends. That should be fun. Maybe I will get more inspiration while I am out. With my camera. If you have any ideas for things that would be fun to paint (along the lines of fun/cute decorative art for children) leave a comment.
