Julia and the boys
He's here! Adrian Paul Mann, our second son, was born on October 26, 2011. He weighed 7 lbs. 9 oz. (one ounce heavier than Anson when he was born). He is 19 inches tall and is slender and long. He has lots of hair and is pretty adorable. He has a lovely disposition, too, so far he has only cried when he is hungry or when we change his diaper.
The birth itself was interesting. Two hours into induced labor, my nurse and midwife came in and shut off the Pitocin. My midwife informed me that the OSU hospital had called and said that according to the MRI I had a fractured pelvis. She then said that I would need to get a C-section so that I wouldn't damage my pelvis to the point of needing serious surgery. Surprisingly I felt calm when she told me this. Heavenly Father helped me feel at peace.
Even so, it was a mildly terrifying experience. The room was so sterile and medical, everyone was wearing scrubs and face masks, and Paul wasn't allowed to come in until they had already given me the spinal block (like an epidural) and started surgery. It was so surreal. When they brought the baby to the changing/cleaning station it was a little easier to cope because I could focus on him instead of what was going on with the rest of my body.
That said, I am so happy he is here and part of our little family. Anson came to see him yesterday and today and was enchanted with his baby brother. He really enjoys holding and kissing him. Paul and I also find him very enjoyable to love, what a sweetie!
So now I am in the hospital for a few more days. Life has gotten extremely difficult, since I am bedridden. The intense pain I was already experiencing last week has worsened with the wound of the C-section. I am blessed, though, because my baby is easy, Mom and Paul are helping a great deal, and all the nurses, midwives, and doctors have been very pleasant. I hope I will recover soon. Today has been somewhat discouraging, but overall I can tell that things are getting better. Adrian is having hiccups in his little bassinet. What a beautiful gift from God babies are!
We love you guys! Congratulations on another beautiful boy, what a gift. I am so happy things went well with his birth. I hope you heal well and quickly!!
ReplyDeleteI had a very similar experience with Liam's birth, I found out I needed a c-section and then went right over to Labor and delivery to have it right away even though it wasn't an immediate emergency, so I know exactly what you mean by how surreal it felt! I'm so glad you are both doing well, and I hope you recover quickly. That picture is SO adorable!
