Last Saturday the Franklin Park Conservatory had an event for children. They were releasing the Blue Morpho Butterfly back into the rainforest exhibit so they had a bunch of butterfly activities for children that day. We made a scratch-art butterfly, a snack bag butterfly, a coffee filter butterfly ring, ate a blue snow cone, and got a puffy butterfly sticker. We also watched the butterflies hatch out of their chrysalises, unflurl and pump their wings, and then some of the kids released them into the rainforest exhibit. Most of them were monarchs or yellow swallowtail. I did see one blue morpho flying around and was amazed by how big and beautiful it was. There was also a bunch of gorgeous Chihuly glass sculpture throughout the exhibits. They had a documentary playing that showed some of his processes and I was pretty glued to that (so was Anson, surprisingly). We visited a bunch of the other exhibits as well.
There were also a ton of orchids throughout all the exhibits. In the entry there was a mammoth sculpture of an orchid that had me stumped, I could have sworn it was real, but it was glass! Awesome. We will definitely go again and again.
